[Lecture abstract]

This seminar will focus on the urgency of accelerating mitigation efforts and interactions with other sustainable development priorities, as highlighted in the IPCC AR6 cycle. The discussion will explore the persistent emissions and implementation gaps, despite mitigation efforts and nationally determined contributions (NDCs). The seminar will cover the technical and policy measures necessary for achieving rapid decarbonisation and the importance of integrating mitigation with broader adaptative strategies. Additionally, it will address the enabling conditions required for transformative changes, such as improved governance, financial flows, and equitable policies, emphasising the need for coordinated, multi-faceted approaches to meet climate objectives.
