Great East Japan Earthquake Strikes Sewerage System

Introduction
Last March 11th, Touhoku Earthquake hits Japan with the greatest power ever since the observation of magnitude of earthquake have started. The earthquake triggered tsunami, went up to nearly ten meters high in some area, and killed many people and washed away cities in coastal region. Many cities in coastal region lost its functions including sewage systems. Sewerage system is one of most important function of city. In this great earthquake, many cities’ sewerage systems were damaged severely, and many citizens are suffering.
This paper presented the gathered information of the Great East Japan Earthquake relating to the sewage systems of Touhoku area, and was summarized to be used as reference for further studies.
